Seeking an *Excellent* beta, please.
Jun. 8th, 2011 02:33 pmheya there. if you are still subscribed to this nearly dead journal, then you must be either pretty lazy, or a seriously dedicated fan. either way, thanks for reading! :)
so if you are one of those dedicated fans, you know my "Breaking Him" series.
(if you don't know it, you can read the entirety of what i have already posted over at skyehawke: http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=12977 )
currently three parts and a total of approximately 25,000 words, this is my most asked about WIP. and i have been promising to write the concluding fic to what is intended to be a 4 part series, for what now adds up to a number of years. an embarrassing number of years, to tell the truth.
but! but i have good news. the last section? she is essentially done. by which i mean "Waking Him" is now 18 full chapters, plus the plotting out to the very end. which should really be several thousand words or the whole denouement will be nothing but "tell, tell, tell" and no "show" at all!
i now want to find a really good beta, who has a LOT of time, get the first three chapters or so thoroughly vetted, and then start posting, one chapter a week. 20 or so chapters will take me well into october. at least! posting could go into early november if i end up with more chapters than i expect or get started later than the next couple of weeks.
so, anyone here want to be my beta?
i'm not wed to any particular methods of working on a fic. gmail docs, "changes" in word, talking over chat, something else you prefer, just let me know what works for you technologically and i will try to make it work for the right beta.
the one thing i can't change is that the fic was written on a mac, in word. :)
in a beta, i need someone with
one: time,
two: skill and
three: no fear of offending me!
what do i mean by time? i mean i want you to have the time to seriously tackle and argue with and possibly help me tear to shreds and rearrange about three to six thousand words a week.
what do i mean by skill? i mean i don't want a beta who normally reads a fic and comes back to the author with "looks good! i love it!" it means i am not looking for feedback on nothing but spelling and grammar. it means i need someone who knows how to write well, knows how to read well, knows how to communicate constructive criticism and knows how to let it go when s/he and the author disagree on something subjective.
because yes, i want a heavily critical, skilled, tenacious beta who loves the fic and wants it to be my best work. but i want you to also understand that it's MY work!
this may mean a few seriously detailed conversations about why i want to keep that scene, or whatever. frankly, i welcome this.
as for someone who isn't afraid of offending me, well, i hope i've already made that part clear. :)
hopefully, TM
